Eighty percent of global GDP is generated in cities, but how do these bastions of innovation and progress work their magic? This session is a deep dive into the latest knowledge and data about how cities create prosperity, their growth patterns, and the necessary preparations for the hundreds of millions of new urban residents arriving in the next three decades.

With increasing interest and investment in new cities and rapid urban expansion in developing countries, this session gives a deeply nerdy planner's view of humanity's greatest invention.

Session lead Patrick Lamson-Hall's unique approach to urban planning draws on the work of his colleagues and collaborators, including Nobel Laureate Paul Romer, groundbreaking urban economist Alain Bertaud,  international development expert Bill Easterly, and the guru of inclusive urban growth Solly Angel.

Working as a planner and economist across the public and private sectors, Patrick has field experience in twelve countries and has helped plan over 30 cities, including Ciudad Morazan, a groundbreaking ZEDE charter city project in Choloma, Honduras.
