John D. Liu has been a professional observer as a journalist, filmmaker and ecologist for more than 40 years. His work documenting the restoration of China’s Loess Plateau has helped to show that it is possible to restore natural ecological systems. John has worked in 90 countries around the world and made dozens of films shown worldwide. He also used to be a producer and cameraman with CBS News, RAI and ZDF. Documented and studied the restoration of the Loess Plateau in China supported by the World Bank.  This pioneering work led John to receive a number of academic appointments, Visiting Fellow at the University of the West of England (UWE), Rothamsted International Fellow for the Communication of Science, Graduate studies in Soil science and ecology at Reading University, appointed Assistant Research Professor at George Mason University, Senior Research Fellow with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) research fellow at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (NIOO/KNAW) . John has produced, filmed, written, directed and presented numerous films broadcast on BBC, National Geographic, Discovery, PBS and other networks. 

John D. Liu is currently Ecosystem Ambassador for the Commonland Foundation https://commonland.com/. He is also the founder of the Ecosystem Restoration Communities https://www.ecosystemrestorationcommunities.org/ and he is recently setting up a new foundation called Friends of the Ecosystem Restoration Movement.
