When did you last get so absorbed in a conversation, a piece of music, or something new that you stopped thinking about yourself?
Looking after your health can take plenty of attention. What makes the life you’re looking after feel interesting and worth living?
Vivek joins Jason Ryer for a conversation about curiosity, inspiration, and the habit of constantly evaluating ourselves. Drawing on his own experiences, he’ll explore what he means by forgetting yourself: becoming absorbed in people, ideas, and activities without continually assessing what they say about you.
After attending a recent presentation about light stimulation, Vivek went home and built his own light device. It’s one example of curiosity moving from interest into action.
Together, we’ll examine where useful self-reflection becomes repetitive self-concern, how curiosity shows up in everyday life, and what this perspective can—and cannot—offer someone interested in living well.
The format is a short opening, a discussion hosted by Jason, and plenty of room for audience questions. Bring a question, or an experience of feeling completely absorbed in something you enjoy.
