Tim Beiko and Venkatesh Rao, Summer of Protocols program directors, kick things off with twin talks on Monday, November 4th. They’ll provide editorials on the field of protocolics, the utility of tensions, and insights from over two years of research in a new and growing field of study.
After the discussion, attendees will participate in the first round of tension sessions. Guest thinkers and practitioners will be joined by the world’s best protocol researchers to act as facilitators.
Each facilitator will present a tension that can be collected in the form of a cryptographic card — these tension cards will provide design constraints for the overarching artifact development objective of the week: designing a protocol stack for an UnCity.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday compose daily tensions sessions where attendees will collect cards and hone their thinking. Protocol design is the engineering and leadership skill of the future.
The event concludes on Friday with a hackathon-style event, where the best UnCity wins!
This could be a pop-up city, a new seasteading movement, a coastal bioengineering town, etc. By the end of the week, you’ll know if your vision is feasible and robust to shifting geopolitical technological, and environmental tides.
